CLINICALS. ARE. OVER!

Now all I have is the Multi-Skills test on Tuesday, a certification test to take when I can schedule it with the health department, and I will be a licensed Certified Nurse Assistant.

Three more days of studying is a small price to pay, I think. Especially when I can wake up sometime after 5:40 for now.

Hey there, internets. It’s been too long.

personal )

I’ve been looking over some old ideas for NaNoWriMo and wondering if I should give it a shot this year. Writing’s been getting easier and easier over the past month or so; there are two stories sitting on my computer that just need some tightening before I feel ready to post them. Hmmm. *ponders*

I've got a couple of applications turned in; now all I have to do is wait and see if either prospective employer bothers to call back. The lawn is almost mowed, and it'd be one less thing to worry about if the edger would cooperate and start working properly.

In the meantime, [info]femslash09 is taking signups until June 3rd. If you're a fic writer and haven't already signed up, I'd definitely suggest doing so; there are some awesome prompts this year.

Also, I saw the new Star Trek movie with my dad and brother, which was even better than I'd hoped!

Spoilers below )

It'll be interesting to see what Paramount does with the franchise after this movie.

I totally wasn't planning on adding another webcomic to my must-read list, but.

If the idea of a dramatic, fast paced story about bootleggers, jazz musicians, mobsters and death defying escapades in 1930s St. Louis (which just happens to be inhabited by anthropomorphic cats) sounds like your kind of read, then head on over to Lackadaisy and prepare to loose an hour or two of your time.

Blerg. Figures the weather would remember it's supposed to be winter, just as the new semester is starting up. Because sticky streets are exactly what I need now.

Tulsa's unfortunate climate aside, it's been a good 2009 so far. I've finally picked out a major (political science, subject to change without notice), the classes this year have just the right balance between challenging and understandable, and I may have a job soon.

All I need to do now is survive the roads. And the Tulsa drivers, who really aren't good with slick roads of any kind.

Winter semester is finally over and done with. Last paper handed in, last final taken, last class attended. Now to go collapse and not wake up until after Christmas.

In significantly more rage inducing news - great job with the epic fail, Shyamalan. There isn't much I can say about this particular stupidity that hasn't been said better elsewhere, so I'll just join in the chorus of people hoping that Dante and Bryan had no part in this.

Pros -

- I had a great Halloween. No trick-or-treaters, nice dinner with the parents, and no marauding zombies, LJ's decor notwithstanding.

- School is getting easier. The pattern of study/homework/panic/take test is starting to actually feel natural, instead of something I have to force myself into every day.

- Gas prices are lower than I'd let myself hope they'd be.

- Voting on Monday. Sure, it's Oklahoma and my Democratic vote is almost guaranteed to be a waste, but things seem to be going well for Obama and it'll be good to be make my choice and be heard.

- My NaNoWriMo project has a definite beginning, and I'm starting to see where the overall plot will go. (I'm Tin Man if anyone's interested)

- Therapy on Monday.

Cons

- I have to study for a Spanish test, memorize two monologues and a scene from Streetcar Named Desire, and finish my leftover math homework before Monday.

- I still have a NaNo count of zero.

- My keyboard is doing its best to drive me insane.

- Therapy on Monday.

All in all, I think it balances out.

Happy Halloween Eve!

I've decided to give the whole NaNo thing yet another try. Despite having written nothing longer than 3000 words in years. Determination to succeed at something, or latent masochism? You decide.

So, Josh. What have you learned after being back at college for a few weeks?

- "I'm about to beat BioShock" is not a good reason to stay up till 1:00 AM.

- Drama teachers are hard to annoy, but forgetting your lines too often can help.

- A schedule is good for you. No, really. No matter what your head is telling you at 9:00 in the morning.

- Teachers can always get weirder. And more boring.

- There can be no scribbling fanfic in your notebook when you should be taking notes.

- Do not put off math homework. Walk too far down that road and you end up trying to get it done at 2 in the morning, wondering how you made 2+(-3) x 5 = -6.

School starts in two days. I probably shouldn't be quite this nervous.

In other news, watching the Animatrix again on youtube made me nostalgic for the days when the Matrix didn’t completely suck. The shorts are a little hit and miss, but I loved Beyond, The Second Renaissance, and my favorite, A Detective Story. Of course, that one was directed by Shinichiro Watanabe so my opinion does not exactly = objective. I think I still might genuinely love the series as a whole if the two final movies hadn’t been such overwrought messes.

And if they’d killed that stupid kid instead of the poor colonel guy.

Thoughts about the Matrix series in general -  )

My cousin got out of surgery today. They had to do a little more than they thought they would, so she had to stay overnight, but it looks like she's going to do all right.

The local community college's Fall semester starts in less than a week, so I should probably head on down and get my books before the rush - that is, when every other procrastinator out there realizes school starts in three days and floods into the bookstore. I wish I wasn't taking a class way out at the Southeast campus, but other than that I'm satisfied with my course schedule so far. I'm holding out on loving it unconditionally because it's still got a math course in there and I have to check those out before loving them.

Weather - 79 degrees fahrenheit, with no highs above the eighties in sight. I officially take back everything bad I ever said about Oklahoman weather.

Having finally caught up with Avatar, and seen the grand finale, I’ve been getting some thoughts in order about the final season. Aside from “Holy crap, that was awesome.”

Spoilers and bullet points below. You have been warned. )

All in all, a great end to a great series. It sounds weird saying this, but I’m kind of glad that they stuck to this many episodes in this exact format. The three “books”, the order of the chapters, the story lines diverging and coming together - it was all very well done, and I don’t think extra episodes would have been an improvement.

Well done, Dante and Bryan. Well done.

I just got to listen to a girl in my Freshman Comp class use Juno as an example of pop culture that "makes teenage motherhood look easy. I mean, she just had it and gave it up!"

It was tempting to say "You and I didn't see the same movie at all, did you?" But somehow, I persevered.

Things I have been watching lately that make me happy -

- Wizard People, Good Reader. “Shredding through the stratos, descends no other than Hagar the Horrible. A huge man, that if you didn't know better, you may mistake for a giant hairy truck. “ Just watch. My words cannot do it justice.

- The Guild. Best damn show about online gaming in the whole world.

- Avatar Season three. There will be Thoughts about this, once I’m caught up. Maybe even coherent and interesting thoughts!

And so the signups for [info]marveloustales are over. Two stories, 1000 words each, due in the middle of August. Will someone remind me why I decided to this, again?

On the other hand, it looks like I'm going to get some awesome stories out of some of my prompts. So there is that.

This is one of the most awesome Iron Man movieverse fanfics ever. Seriously.

Also, signups are are open at [info]marveloustales until the 20th, and I don't think you have to have submitted a prompt to join the fun. So I'd encourage everyone to give it a try. and not just because someone picked the one prompt I was hoping they'd pick, too. :-)
